A Southwestern style Christmas can be very special and unique; Putting lights on cacti, luminarias at the botanical garden, 70 degree weather on Christmas day. But, in the town that I live, Chandler, Arizona, we have the only Christmas tree of this type in the United States, the world perhaps. The Tumbleweed Tree has been a Chandler tradition since 1957.
On the first Saturday in December, the town holds a Christmas Lights parade through Historic Downtown Chandler and then the climaxed with the tree lighting.
The process starts months before with city park workers collecting Tumbleweed’s to be used in the 35 ft. wire framed tree structure. Once attached to the frame, they are sprayed with 25 gallons of white paint, 20 gallons of fire retardant, and dusted with 65 pounds of glitter. How’s that for some crafting?! Finally, the tree is adorned with over 1200 holiday lights.
Isn’t it lovely? I never get tired of seeing it, it’s our little claim to fame here in Chandler. Thanks again friends for visiting! Have a wonderful Holiday season!
