Artist Statement

My canvas artwork is created for inspiration and encouragement.  It is meant for women or young girls that want to overcome obstacles and continue the journey they are on.  Women that may be going through a cancer battle, life changing event or girls that may be graduating and starting a new chapter in their life.

Vibrant colors is a common thread with all my canvases, whether I’m creating a girl, butterflies or hearts.  Most recently I’ve been creating girls (or my muses) to garden settings and intuitive style painting.  They are Folk art in mixed media form and combine acrylic paints, collaging of vintage papers, modeling paste and even watercolor paints.

Each piece starts off with an idea of a focal point (girl, heart, word)  and grows froWork in progress in my studio www.carmenwhitehead.comm there. During the process the color scheme may change and evolve until I feel the true message is coming  through the canvas.  I will  often add words that mean a lot to me as a cancer survivor; be brave, courage, believe.  But, all of my work is meant to bring peace and joy.

Hope this gives you a little idea of who I am and what I love.  Come visit often, since I always have something new to share.
