Braver, Stronger, Smarter Original Canvas

The Winnie the Pooh series of books has some of the most heart warming quotes you will ever find.  A.A. Milne gave all these characters wisdom and love that has been shared with millions of children.  One of my favorite quotes is Christopher Robin telling Winnie the Pooh how brave, strong and smart he is and that they would always be together.

Recently, I had a commission piece ordered with this full quote on an 11″ x 14″ canvas.  I was so happy to do this because I had created a similar canvas for my children a few years ago. You can see it here.

I started by placing the first layer of collage with some Deco Art tissue in Old Worlde and Decou page sealant.

To tone down the color and give it a more vintage look, I used some Walnut Ink Crystals that I had already mixed with water.  This is a super way to give your canvas an old look.  It’s easy to wipe off any excess or use more for a drippage effect.

My client wanted a similar look of another piece I have in my Etsy shop, so I used the same stencils I used on that one.  The hearts are from The Crafter’s Workshop TCW567 Complicated Hearts and the netting pattern is TCW569 Nautical Chains.

For the hearts this time, I used Americana Acrylic in Cranberry Wine mixed with crackle paste.  This gave the hearts wonderful dimension, especially when you rub in some antiquing creme into the cracks.  I also framed the hearts with a light line of charcoal pencil.

Here’s a close up of the cracks.  Amazing right?

For the quote I decided to use printed paper, cut into strips and adhered to the canvas.  Before doing this I sprayed the entire canvas with DecoArt Sealant so the inks and charcoal pencil won’t smear. For the font I used Architect’s Daughter in a 40 pt size.

Before adhering the strips I gave them a little color with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot.

Here is the finished piece…

I hope my client loves it as much as I do.  If you’re interested in a customized canvas you can contact me through my Etsy Shop or on the contact page here.
