#BringBackOurGirls Art Auction

On April 15th, 230 Nigerian girls were kidnapped from their school by the radical islamist group Boko Haram.  The girls knew the risks of seeking an education in a a country known for terrorist attacks.  Every girl has a right to seek education, to improve herself and to be safe from harm.  The news reports tell us of the possible fate of these girls and the atrocities happening in this country.  You can read more at this LA Times report here.
As a mother of a 16 year old girl, this kidnapping is something that I can’t even imagine having to go through.
The world’s response to this has been slow but steady.  What can we do to help, even in the smallest of ways? You can visit the Girls Rising website for suggestions on how you can get involved.

Also, a group of artists, led by Jessica Sporn have combined forces and donated art to be auctioned online.  I’m honored to be a part of this group and I’ve donated an original canvas that I feel speaks of these girls, Be Brave.
This is an 8″ x 8″ x 1.5″ gallery wrapped canvas.
This wonderful piece is by Jessica Sporn.  Isn’t it awesome!  There really are some incredibly talented artists involved in this event and I encourage you to visit the auction.  Any way that you can get get involved will make a difference and be so appreciated.
All of the money raised in the auction will be donated to the GirlRising.com organization and help their efforts in educating girls, bringing awareness about this issue and inspire action through their partners.
You can access the auction site here.  It will be open May 15th 7:00 am EDT to May 17th 3:00 am EDT.  On this date it will be one month since these brave girls were kidnapped.  Let’s honor them by demonstrating with art.
