Lately I’ve had an interest in Lotus flowers and how striking they look as a focal point in a canvas. I had painted them before in muse canvas of the girl in a meadow setting. But, this time I was working on a smaller 12″ x 12″ gallery wrapped canvas and wanted to make the flowers central.
Lately I’ve been coming across lots of Lotus flowers in mixed media and I really wanted to combine that lovely flower with one of my girls. My latest creation is a girl set in a meadow setting with lots of flowers around her.
Today I’m playing with my Gelli Arts® plate and pulling some sample mono prints for my next workshop at CraftFusion on Friday May 22nd. Every other week or so I will set aside some time to just pull prints and fill up my stash of prints. I use them for collages on my canvases and art journal pages.
This week I finished my latest girl art canvas that is titled “The Search for Truth Begins”. This title was taken from a chapter title on a page that I used as part of the background. I was so taken by the title and I thought it would be a perfect match for my girl.
Three of my favorite words – Love, Laugh and Live. This mixed media canvas I’m sharing with you today is a little bit different for me because I’m not using a variety of vibrant colors like I normally do, but I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out.
For the past week I’ve been working on this original mixed media canvas titled, Garden Fairy. It’s a larger piece at 16″ x 20″ and I created it with the intent of submitting it for a juried gallery show with the theme, Once Upon A Time.
I had been practicing my faces quite a bit and also purchased Jane Davenport’s book Beautiful Faces, which really helped me a lot! I actually changed the face and hair after studying her book. I used Americana Acrylics, Media Line Fluid Acrylics, Media Line Misters, Andy Skinner Stencils, Silk Glaze paints, and graphite pencils.
So I’ll know in a couple of weeks of my canvas has been accepted to the gallery showing. I was definitely nervous in submitting my work, but sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and take a chance.
Thanks so much for visiting friends!
