I’ve worked with lots of different kinds of paints, but I’ve never tried chalk paint. So when I found a floral print with a not-so-pretty frame at the thrift store, I knew I could save it and give it a new life.
I really liked the floral print and the detail on the frame, but I wasn’t crazy about the gold and green color. So, I decided to try DecoArt’s Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint. I am a DecoArt Blogger and received these products from them, but all opinions are strictly my own. I wanted a very neutral color, so I selected the color Heritage.
I didn’t want to take the frame apart because it was sealed on the back with paper, so I used some painters tape to protect the glass. The paint went on so smoothly and I only required one layer.
Once the paint was dry I used the Americana Decor Creme Wax and applied it with their wax brush. It was very easy to apply and the brush got into all the detail areas. Once it was dry I wiped it down with a clean cotton cloth. I didn’t rub to hard because I wanted more of a matte finish instead of satin.
I then applied the Deep Brown Creme Wax with the same brush. As I finished each side I wiped it down with the same cotton cloth. I took care to leave some of the dark wax in the deep detail areas to show contrast. The brush was easy to clean up with soap and water.
I really like how it turned out and how easy it was to get the look I wanted. I will definitely be painting other frames, tables and other furniture, so stay tuned!
