e.e. cummings wrote one of my most favorite poems, i carry your heart with me. It’s such a sweet and simple verse, but yet so powerful. I tried to capture that feeling in this canvas.
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
Isn’t it beautiful?
This 8″ x 10″ back stapled canvas started with a collage of script tissue paper and heart printables I adhered with matte medium. A wash of Burnt Sienna on the entire canvas gave it a vintage feel and got into all the little crevices of the paper doily.
I used modeling paste with the ledger stencil to give it dimension, even on the sides of the canvas. The butterfly is a stamp on a mono print paper I’ve had for quite a while, but the colors worked perfectly for this canvas.
I stamped the words onto pieces of vintage dictionary paper and adhered with matte medium. I finally sprayed some walnut ink at the top of the canvas and let it drip down for a distressed feel.
Here is a list of The Crafter’s Workshop stencils and supplies I used on this project.
