September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and today I’m sharing with you an inspiration card I created for Bella Crafts Publishing.
As a 4 year survivor of stage III Ovarian Cancer I am so grateful for my long remission and survivorship, considering the odds I was up against. While in treatment I loved getting cards in the mail that would give me a word of encouragement and inspiration.
- Strathmore Mixed Media Cards
- Shawn Petitie Stencils Fave Words
- The Crafter’s Workshop stencil TCW 558s
- Liquitex modeling paste
- Americana Acrylic Paint
- Dina Wakley Paint
- cosmetic sponges
- flat brush
- palette knife
These mixed media cards are great for adding paint and wet medium, I love using them! I first painted the background with driftwood acrylic paint. Then using a cosmetic sponge I applied Americana Antique Teal and Dina Wakley turquoise with The Crafter’s Workshop stencil TCW558s Mini Twig and Berries. To fill in the card more I used Shawn Petite’s Fave Words stencil with the small circles.
To give the card some dimension and add a word of inspiration, I selected one of the words on Shawn’s stencil. The word Believe was perfect for this card. It just so happens to be my word for 2015, but it’s a word that cancer survivors can relate to by believing in a future without cancer. I mixed Americana acrylic paint in Desert Turquoise with Media Line modeling paste and applied with a palette knife. Always remember to rinse off your palette knife and stencil after using any kind of modeling paste.
This was a simple card to make but, a simple word can have so much impact. Especially when you use the color with that cancer, in this case Teal is the color of Ovarian Cancer.
