Lately I’ve had an interest in Lotus flowers and how striking they look as a focal point in a canvas. I had painted them before in muse canvas of the girl in a meadow setting. But, this time I was working on a smaller 12″ x 12″ gallery wrapped canvas and wanted to make the flowers central.
I started with a muted background using acrylics in colors that would be found in a meadow setting, blues, greens and raw sienna.
I used various stencils to create the textured background in varying shades of my initial colors. I also used some of my favorite “everyday items” to create markings.
Once I had an idea of where I wanted to place my Lotus flowers I started painting light shades to darker shadows. I’m also loving the drippage effect I get with ink sprays.
Here is the finished piece…
I’m really pleased and happy with the results. It’s now available in my shop for purchase. This is the first piece in a series I’ll be doing highlighting this wonderful flower, so stay tuned for more…
