Hello my friends! Today I’m sharing with you an update on my home decor and DIY projects. This week I found a wonderful new dresser for my entryway. You would think that a dresser would not be the right furniture piece for a living room style area, but I simply fell in love with this piece at first sight.
I had been looking at tables and buffets, but I hadn’t found the right style or price. This past weekend a local store that I absolutely love, Merchant Square, had a storewide sale. After searching high and low, this little beauty spoke to me.
It has the clean lines that I was looking for, the white paint with a darker top was perfect for my future design plans of having a cottage style sitting area for this room.
I also purchased a lovely little white linen runner to showcase my pictures and candle stands. The pictures shown here are of my two children taken when they were 6 and 2 years old. Then I recreated the scene when they were 18 and 14. This is one of my favorite vignettes.
I had painted the wall mirror and candle stands a few weeks ago and had been waiting to find the right piece to finish this area. The candle sticks were black and I used DecoArt’s Chalky Finish in Heritage. The mirror was a dark wood tone, I updated it with Chalky Finish paint in Lace. It was also finished with dark wax.
On the adjacent wall is a gallery of family pictures and our initials that I had created a couple of years ago. I’m finally getting around to updating this front room to be more useful.
Right now the front room serves as my formal dining room. I’ve had this set for years, but we rarely use this room. Our large family dinners and holidays always happen at my mom’s house and this room is simply used as a display for all my vintage goodies and antiques. The plan is to get rid of the table and chairs, but keep the china hutch and simply update it with some paint. I have too many collectibles to not have some kind of storage for them, so I will paint the hutch to match the new dresser.
The rest of the room will become a sitting room with a couple of comfy chairs, table and lamp. The light fixture will probably replaced with something a little more shabby.
Sometimes updating a room can take time to find the right pieces that will fit the style and budget. But I feel I’m on the right track with the purchase of this wonderful dresser.
Thanks so much for visiting friends and stay tuned for more updates!
Blessings,
Hi Carmen. Thanks for the nice comment you left me yesterday. Hope you got to visit Cherry Hill Cottage for a look around. Tina’s home is amazing!
I love the chest you found. The two tone color is great! I think just about every room could benefit from a chest because it gives us more storage. Bet you’re gonna love it!
Thanks so much for visiting Stacey!
Lovely piece of furniture! Can’t wait to see your finished room!
I love the “tree” pictures of your kids. Those are so cute.
Thanks Jessica, It’s one of my favorite pictures.
Doesn’t it feel great when you find just the right piece of furniture that truly speaks to you. Thank you for sharing it at Shabbilicious Friday.
Thanks so much for visiting Kerryanne!
Carmen, what a lovely piece! I have a dresser in my living room too–also styled with family photos. Love your gallery wall, too! Thanks so much for sharing @Vintage Charm!
Thanks Cecilia! I love the way it looks and I’m looking for more pieces not to finish that room, stay tuned!
