Something for Grandma…

Ever since I had children of my own, I’ve made my Mother’s Day gifts to my mom from her grandchildren.  My mom has 7 grandchildren total and 3 great grandsons (soon to be 4).  All of the grandkids have been taken care of by her, none of them ever went to daycare.  So, she has had a huge part in their upbringing.  Since Grandmothers are so special, I decided to make a canvas that was specially for them.

I started with an 8″ x 10″ canvas and collaged scrapbook paper with DecoArt DecouPage.  I liked the little bird on this paper and wanted to make sure it was still visible.
I mixed together some American Glazing Medium, and paint to cover the canvas, but still have the scrapbook paper peek through.
I have a love of poppies, especially red ones, so I painted some poppies and highlighted the bird on the branch.  I then outlined the poppies with some charcoal pencil.  Because the pencil can smear with regular gel medium, I sealed the canvas first with spray sealant.   Then added the words, with a final sealant of gel medium.
Hope you like it, This one is available in my Etsy shop now.
