Thrifting Monday – Framed Art and Other Treasures

I’ve decided that every Monday I will share with you what I’ve rescued from local thrift stores in the last week.  Some are such treasures that it’s amazing to me what I find.  Here is this weeks finds…
I’ve been wanting to update my master bedroom for quite a while and over the next few weeks I will be doing that and sharing with you the progress.  Today I went to Goodwill looking for some frames for a small gallery wall.  I had purchased a couple of pieces of chenille material from a wonderful Etsy shop and one of them I wanted to frame, the second is being made into a pillow (stay tuned for that update in a future post).

Lantern Collection

One of my favorite collections that I have is a small collection of tea light lanterns.  They range in colors, sizes, materials and overall look.  The one thing they do have in common is that they are all thrift store rescues.

I move them around the house regularly and use them for decorating of every season.  Here you can see two being used for Autumn and Thanksgiving decor last year.
I love this large one with the cut glass.  It matches the candle holder I have and it has a real Moroccan look to it.  I plan on using it for Christmas display this year.
This wood lantern is actually an oil burning lamp.  I repainted it white because of the oil soot.  It’s now displayed on my dining room table as part of my Autumn decor (stay tuned for a post on that).

During the summer months I usually display some of them on top of my china hutch.

It’s a small collection, but I’m always on the look out for more lanterns.  You just never know when you will find one.  Do you have a small collection you’re trying to grow?  Go to my facebook page and share some pictures with me there.
Blessings,

My Thrift Store Breakfast Nook

One of the reasons I love thrifting is the hunt for the treasure.  That one or two pieces that are such an incredible deal and can be brought back to life with a little TLC.  I have one area in my home that is decorated with 90 % of  thrift store rescues. Some of them have been painted and some have were just been cleaned up and placed on the shelf.  This is my breakfast room…

Fall Garden Art

Fall decor isn’t just for inside the house or doorway.  The last couple of years I’ve added seasonal garden art with decorative plate flowers, garden totems or bird feeders that I’ve made.  The thrift stores and yard sales are full of dishes, vases and ceramic pieces that can be used for garden art.

This ceramic pumpkin sits atop a plate, an inverted frosted plate and a vase.  I’ve place seeds on this plate and use it as a bird feeder.

My recent vintage-shabby haul

I love it when I find a business via facebook or etsy that has things I love at a price I love.  It makes for a winning combination.  When I shop for my embellishment supplies I like to go to the actual store i.e. Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s, because I like to look, feel, touch the laces, flowers and ribbons.  To make sure they are what I would use and will go with my “look” in my frames, mixed media and crosses.  But recently I found two businesses on facebook that I have purchased some beautiful embellishments and plan on purchasing again.
Lavish Laces has a wonderful selection of laces, rosettes and paper flowers at incredible prices.  I love using chiffon rosettes in my pieces, but they can be so expensive when purchased at the craft store and you only get 3-5 pieces.  But look at what I found…
